Ready to Change Our Community Through Bicycle and Pedestrian Advocacy?

Role Summary
You can make a difference as the Edmonds Bicycle Advocacy Group (EBAG) chairperson while working with community leaders who share your passion. The volunteer position raises safety awareness to encourage more people to bike and walk by collaborating with community partners and citizens.

EBAG is a 501(c)6, non-profit, all volunteer club with about 13 members. There are no membership dues or fund-raising activities, except for the annual breakfast in conjunction with the Cascade Bicycle Club’s Kitsap Color Classic Ride, which will be held on September 23rd in 2018.

Since 1994, the role of the chairperson has varied depending on project priorities, the chairperson’s particular interests and how much support is volunteered by the membership. The responsibilities listed below include recent activities led by the previous chairpersons and some are anticipated to carry over to the new chairperson. Accomplishments are the result of collaborative efforts between the group and chairpersons.

· Create and email meeting agendas to membership and lead monthly meetings
· Maintain email list of members and interested parties
· Plan, coordinate and organize the annual breakfast fundraiser at the Kitsap Color Classic Ride
· Coordinate and recruit membership for events, collaboration and advocacy opportunities
· Plan and coordinate community events with partners
· Reach out to community organizations with similar passions and goals
· Compose and distribute news releases after sharing with club members for reviewing
· Plan and coordinate one group ride per year
· Update and maintain group’s website and social media presence
· Maintain contract (point-of-contact, updates, signing, etc.) with Frances Anderson Center, location of monthly meetings

· State of Washington DOT contacts in Olympia
· City of Edmonds and surrounding communities
· Verdant Health Commission
· Edmonds School District #15

· Passion for bicycling and pedestrian safety
· Leadership qualities
· Skilled at building consensus within membership and with partners
· Well organized and pays attention to detail
· Previous volunteer experience
· Positive outlook and has fun bicycling
· Can-do attitude
· Networking skills

· Safe Routes to School (partnered with cities & local schools)
· Bike Everywhere Day/Bike To School Day/Bike Rodeos/BikeBash of Snohomish County
· Edmonds Health & Fitness Expo Bike Rodeo
· Edmonds Night Out
· Bike2Health (regional bike network)
· Brought more bike racks to downtown Edmonds
· Bike Advocacy/recommendations on state, regional & local government level
· Transportation issues in south Snohomish County
· PowerPoint presentations about EBAG to local civic groups

Future Projects Goals
· Safe walking & biking routes to all schools
· Expand the Edmonds elementary school participation from 14 to 22 schools
· Motivate and encourage parents to become more proactive
· Develop more bicycle advocates in Edmonds and Edmonds School District
· Demonstrate to our community the Edmonds “Bike2Health” improvements upon completion
